Overdues

OVERDUE ITEMS: borrowed library items returned after the specified due date and time shall be subject to a fine of $0.25 after two weeks, $1.00 after four weeds, and $2.00 after six weeks. There shall be a 14-dau grace period during which time the fine willbe canceled if the item is returned. An item is not considered to have returned unil it has been received by the library staff and properl checked in.

OVERDUE VIDEOS: the grace period during which time the fine for overdue videos will be canceled if the item is returned shall be one day.

PRIVILEGES SUSPENDED OR RESTRICTED: borrowing and Internet privileges are restricted or suspended when items are not returned by the due date, or when the borrower has unpaid charges on file. (See the Suspension or Restriction of Borrowing Privileges policy.)

PROSECUTION POSSIBLE: state law (21.O.S.2001 § 1739)defines Library Theft to include failure to return library materials within seven (7) days after demand has been made for their return. It is a misdemeanor offense punishable by a fine and/or restitution. SEPLSO libraries will refer overdue problems involving large quantities ofr values of unreturned items to the District Attorney for appropriate action.

REQUESTS FOR RETURN: except when exceptional value or special circumstances compel faster action, informal reqquests for return are made before the formal written demand required by law is sent. (See the Overdues Procedure for specific steps)
